Permanent Diaconate
The name deacon comes from Greek meaning to serve (see Acts 6).The men called to be a Permanent Deacon are called to service at the altar, assisting the priest, and service to the People of God. They are entrusted with the Gospel, and so proclaim the Gospel at liturgies and preach. They share in the pastoral duties of the parish, and help in the work of sanctifying the people, as well as other more practical ministries, such as to the poor and teaching the faith. If they are married, this is a vocation that is discerned with his wife and family.
